HearNews Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 1, 2026

HearNews is an audio news app that turns public news reporting into short, listenable daily briefings. This policy explains what data the app does — and does not — handle. In short: we do not collect personal information. The one exception is optional feedback you actively submit, described below.

Information we collect

HearNews has no user accounts and no login. We do not ask for, collect, or transmit your name, email address, phone number, contacts, location, or any device or advertising identifier. We do not use analytics, tracking, advertising, or crash-reporting services of any kind.

Some onboarding screens may display sign-in or contact fields; any text entered there stays on your device only, is never sent anywhere, and is discarded when you leave the screen.

Optional feedback: if you choose to use the in-app feedback feature, the rating and comment you write, along with the episode id and a timestamp, are sent to and stored by us so we can improve the app. This only happens if you actively submit feedback — it is never sent automatically, and no other data is attached to it.

Information stored on your device

To make the app work, HearNews saves the following locally on your device only. This information never leaves your device and is not accessible to us:

Uninstalling the app removes this data from your device.

Network activity

The app connects to our content delivery network (d3kczvbmd13gy6.cloudfront.net) only to download the news catalog, episode audio, transcripts, and images so you can listen. These are read-only requests — the app does not upload anything about you. Standard technical information inherent to any internet request (such as your IP address) may be processed by our CDN provider to deliver content; it is not used to identify or profile you.

Notifications

If you enable the daily-brief reminder, HearNews schedules that notification locally on your device. We do not use push tokens or a notification server, and enabling notifications sends no data to us. You can turn reminders off in the app or in your device settings at any time.

Permissions

The only permission HearNews requests is notifications, and only if you choose to enable daily reminders. The app does not access your location, contacts, camera, microphone, or photo library.

News content and third parties

HearNews summarizes reporting from third-party news sources into audio. Those sources are credited within the app. This app does not embed third-party SDKs, and we do not sell or share any data — because we do not collect any.

Children

HearNews is a general-audience news app and is not directed at children. Because we collect no personal information, we do not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children.

Data security & retention

Since no personal data is collected or transmitted, there is no personal data for us to retain, secure, or delete on a server. Your on-device preferences remain under your control and are removed when you uninstall the app.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "Last updated" date.
